Drum Mountain (鼓山 or Gu Shan), located on the eastern outskirts of Fuzhou, China is known for a large flat rock that looks like a drum. When it rains, the rain supposedly drops onto the surface, producing a drum-like sound. To get to the top, hike up, take the cable car or drive up. If going by foot, the path is lined with large stones with historical calligraphic engravings. As we traveled by car (which had really great views of the city on some road turns), this post starts with photos on arrival at the top of the mountain.
While I kept looking up at the beauty of the lanterns and the architecture, I was most mesmerized by this monk practicing calligraphy with water. He gracefully drew the beautiful characters while maintaining a steady hand with the brush.
Happy travels!
